Got a new cable modem and router and wanted to know if they help with speeds. Checked a couple of days ago and got the following speed result to a Dallas server. I always check Dallas 'cause that's where our servers are.

Go check yourself out at www.speedtest.net

Holy **** M13! That's one hell of a DL rate!!!

So you're running a 100Mbit line? What is your provider? I got Virgin Media over in the UK and they give you either 10, 20 or if you're rich, 50Mbit. I didn't even know 100Mbit had been rolled out in America!

This is my result:

Keep in mind that Cable providers use multiplexing to increase line speed and cable networks are succeptable to line congestion, which phone line counterparts do not suffer from, so if you're with a cable provider, having a dramatically lower upload speed is perfectly normal and being that I performed this test at 5pm, just when everyone gets home and logs on, this is my lower limit. My theoretical (and achieved, but at night) upper limit is 20Mbit. Most cable multiplexing nowadays runs at a ratio of 1up/8down with some faster providers (like Virgin) using 1up/12down.

Gah, fiber providers round here cost a fortune. Not enough investment in technological infrastructure.

My cable company hasn't rolled out anything for DOCSIS 3 yet in my area. I'm getting the advantage of having the equipment before they are ready.

Yes my download will very as usage increases, I still avg about 50+/2.5 as my upload is capped.

I was still surprised as all get out when I got the speed above! Had to share...

I'd love a fiber connection, but alas I think it will be a while.

I was one of the first to have a broadband connection, more than 13 years ago now. I can't really remember what dial-up was like.

I looked up the Telstra Internet, and man! I assume the lowest rate is in Australian Dollars, i.e., $AU39.95/mo for 1500/256 with a 2 GB cap? And if you exceed 2GB, the steps are $AU 20?

That's the sort of pricing scheme being fiercely resisted in the USA.

Yeah krispy

Thats right about prices,we have it bad over here some people can get adsl 2+ thats is 20000/1500 and for some reason its a lot cheaper to get $49 150gb a month, for me to get the speed i have costs me $89 month for 8000/512 25GB
