mouse pad

Post by ferapont » Mon Feb 21, 2011 5:16 pm

I have this synthetic fiber mouse pad and im not sure what it is actually made of. It is old and dirty so before I went out to buy another one I decided I would try and clean it up.

I washed it with a little bit of dishwasher soap, I need to go get more laundry detergent. Then I dried it on a flat surface with a cloth. I didnt feel right twisting it dry.

Then it hit me: why dont I spray polish on it? I only had wood/furniture polish. I sprayed it down and let it dry. Now, I dont remember how it felt before, but I think its pretty slick now. In fact, Im going to spray it again later. I have been using it for a few hours now and the bottom of my mouse looks okay.

With a little detergent and some polish spray, I turned an old busted mousepad into a slick monster headshot gaming mousepad.

I am not recommending this procedure to anyone, I am just reporting my new thing.

:chin: Hmmm...maybe I should try a mousepad someday. I have a Microsoft laser mouse and just use it right on my wooden pull-out board on my desk. Never had a mousepad for it since I got rid of the roller balls....

well now you got me thinking, the heel of my palm rests on the pad. I noticed a lot of friction between those two points. Its like I can feel every groove on my palm bouncing across the mousepad. Its like nails on a chalk board for me. Even thought the mouse feels like gliding on air. So embarrassingly I confess, I lotion up that part of my hand before I play. But on a noncloth pad, wood, glass, etc., that friction would probably be greatly reduced.

Maybe I could duct-tape the heel of my palm.

I'm a little bit more cheap...

I bought a 3 pack of self-ashesive lino meter squares for £1. I stuck one to the corner of the desk and it's amazing. My mouse moves smooth, I get no grip on my hand and even though I do eventually wear the surface away through over-use, I can resurface it with other tile.

I found this little method out when I wore about 5mm into a wodden desk, actually making a concave about 50 cm in diameter. I literally wore a hole in my desk playing on games. Now that's dedication.

Teflon coated baking sheet FTW. Get a nice flat one and just slap your mouse right on top. You might need some of the non slip stuff to lay under it, but it works like a charm and can be bought cheaply at wallyworld.

You mean the 'Lamprey' model, manufactured by the Nation Lampoon Company of Griswold, NY?

Just put a trojan on your mouse and squirt a little KY jelly on your tabletop before every gaming session and you'll be good to go Fera...
plus the trojan will protect you from virus'... :chin: or so I've heard.

Just get the ultra sensitive one. Very thin "skinned" I hear.
Or use what DAX uses, the old real ones, made from Lambskin!
