The things you can learn by tracking down these pics...

*** corrected 12/15 ***
This Japanese tank led me to learn that the US M4 Sherman tank of ww2 was named [by the British, following their] custom of naming US-made tanks in their inventory for US Civil War generals. **added**[The British Army had received the first production run of the Sherman via Lend-Lease, while the US Army took one from that run for evaluation.] The UK army had named versions of the earlier M3 tanks Grant and Lee! :chin:

Did you know that there are 'short' and 'long' tons? 'Short' is 2000 pounds, 'Long' is 1000kg.

I guess I need Bing...(like the advert in USA, to combat info-overload). Awk! I did it again!

** excised ** [thus because the US started following the UK]
** added ** [need new glasses, too?] :brain:

This is because 1 kg (metric) = 2.2 lb (imperial) but humans like to work in rounded numbers, so a "long" ton is technically 2200 lb.

Sherman tank... We've used that as a euphamism for years round here...
