Got a badass phone running the Android OS? Hit the Market and search for "Enemy Territory". Allied and Axis sounds are available and can be saved as ringtones and notification sounds!

My incredible HTC Incredible yells "Incoming!" from the game when I get a text. Sweet!

Yeah I got stuck with a Blackberry from work! Oh well it gets my e-mail from the Exchange Server so I guess I can't really complain too much.
I did notice that when I installed the G-Mail app on it, it ran the battery down bad. So now I just pop it over from g-mail not the greatest but it works.

Are they still have issues with the Droid and low battery life? I was testing them at my old job and we had an issue with it.

I don't hate, Sissyboy! It's called teasing. You know, having fun. You do seem to like butting heads with me. Does that make us...buttheads?

ANYway, I'm sure the iPhone users would appreciate a spot here to talk about apps and such as much as the Droids would. It's all good, Sissy! Make love, not war! Oh, wait...

madmaz, the battery life on this Incredible blooooooows. Made it 6 hours today before I had to plug it in. I was continuously talking, texting, and reading on it, though.

The only issue I had with G mail Maz was if you have it checking to often, I have it set to check for new emails every 15 minutes with no problems.

Also not leaving WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth and every other bell and whistle running helps alot, occasionally I throw mine on the car charger between stops but as OHM said, depends on how much talking and texting I am doing.

They already have an extra large aftermarket battery for it but I'm not that big a fan of strapping a brick to my phone.

I can't WAIT to brick up this thing! I'm used to a fatass Palm Treo. I keep thinking I'm gonna snap this skinny phone in two.

I have GPS and Bluetooth turned off. I keep WiFi turned on, but use an app to keep it from sleeping and waking which I read is an even bigger drain.

Sissy's Wife - Android (bought by sissy for mrs. sissy)

And her phone is very cool! The touch screen and sliding keyboard make for great functionality.

She wants the HTC Evo 4G next.......... (ugh these things are expensive)

Check it out. It looks awesome!

Stardom, OMH! I love this! You're a gem! Wicked stuff!
My phone now cries "Fire In The Hole!" when I get a message, much to the amusement of my young one.

Yes, I agree, we need an Android section. It seems that not only will it become market leader in the SmartPhone market, but also in the PC Pad market! I read in an article last night that the new Asus Eee Pad is running Win 7, but their next release will use Android! It's getting everywhere now!

There's recently been a massive media campaign launched by Verizon attacking AT&T regarding 3G coverage, claiming it (Verizon) has 5x more network coverage for 3G than AT&T. If you ggogle it, you'll get the ad with the nice little map view, but it doesn't mention 2G or 4G coverage, so it may be misleading. These are just things I have read about Android OS and phones as of late and it's quite interesting. It seems like AT&T may start selling Android phones too. This may indicate a future battle in the phone OS market, with Android taking a dominant stance while the closed source iPhone OS struggles to adapt to the new flare brought from the Linux-Java based OS.

Battery Life:
Battery life is notably diminished on the Android OS mainly because of poorly coded applications. If one application calls for updates on frequent intervals or uses IO functions in the background, this can put a big drain on the CPU, it can slow down other apps and CPU is one of your main sources of power loss. Unfortunately, solutions mainly revolve around turning things off. Anything that would utilise CPU time, like getting e-mail notifications, turning off automatic synchronising and basically running as little background services as possible. Another things worth mentioning is Widgets. Widgets that update or change use CPU power, so the more you have, the more you drain. Shortcuts don't change and hence, won't need any background service to update, so if you're using a widget to show off, you can save some battery life and make it a link.
However, another one is the AMOLED screens. These use more power the brighter they are. Now interestingly, if you set it to auto adjust, you actually make it worse as the CPU has to now run a service to monitor light levels and adjust the brightness accordingly, using variable amounts of battery for light and some extra for CPU. I find that by setting my brightness to a fixed 15%, I can see clearly in most situations (except direct sunlight, but that's a known issue) and my battery life dramatically improved.
My setup (A stock HTC Desire running Android 2.1) is now that I only have wireless on when I'm looking for a network or intending to connect to one. I turned off "Always connected to Mobile Data network) and turned the connection off as well, so I don't connect to my carrier's data network without realising and racking up some data usage I didn't want to waste. I have a shortcut to my settings on my home page so I can quickly turn these on or off. The only widgets I use is the small Android Music widget (My phone doubles as my MP3 Player. The large SD card and fast USB data transfer rate makes this possible) and a small HTC calendar widget (because I'm forgetful). I also turned off GPS and network location detection. GPS isn't really a problem as it's only active when an application directly uses it, but there are some claims that the network location identification method actually uses substantially more power than is necessary.
I've turned off all internet communications for applications through settings. Surprisingly, this doesn't cripple the apps abilities as all the apps I've used have a manual refresh option.
My battery can last about 4 days on standby, about 36 hours of constant music (with some web surfing and game playing) and 10 hours of 3D graphics gameplaying. All while having wireless on most of the time.
One last interesting thing is the HTC weather and clock widget that comes as the main view on this phone. The developer posted a blog about why it doesn't update when you try to get weather by your current location. It appears that location requests stacked up and began massively draining the CPU, so they removed it from the final release. In order to get the weather clock working, you need to have "Auto Synchronise" on and set the reported location to a fixed destination by searching. However, the time and date is displayed in the notification bar and if you need to know what the weather is like at your current moment in time, you don't really get out enough do you? I say, immediately ditch that widget, turn off auto update in settings for weather and manually refresh it when you need a forecast.

Most of my references come from stuff I read at forums including but not limited to:
The Register
Tech News
PC World (It's amazing how much linkage to source they do)
XDA Developers

Sissy, impressive! Fortunately, the Incredible is practically the same phone, so I'm happy. That front camera is the ****, though! *envy* Sadly, Zeus's tale of Sprint woes is one I've heard sooo so many times from disgruntled Sprint customers. I wouldn't switch to Sprint if the Evo spit chocolates and happy endings.

GunClap, glad I could help spiff up your mobile device! :wtg: As for that clock/weather widget, I LOVE that thing! The current (or latest) weather patterns coming to life on the screen when you power on the phone is COOL. I don't know that I want to give that up. But thanks so much for the other tips! I'll try them all out and see what's what. Not needing another or an extended life battery would suit my broke ass just FINE. :D

Hmmmm. I need to make some cool BBA/ET backgrounds for these HTC phones. 960x800 I believe? Project! Oh man! Wouldn't that be sweet if I could make that ET Clock I designed into a widget???

Yeah, Krispy posted instructions for doing that. I'm just a lazy SOB. :)

I was worried about this phone because of the virtual keyboard. I've been using that extensively for about a month now. Boo! No substitute for actual keys!
