Custom Maps

Post by Swatt » Thu May 20, 2010 10:09 am

Anyone ever play some of these? The clip below is just one of the many on youtube showing game play of various custom maps.

Maps: Vio Hangar, Radar, Tower and Andes

Some of those maps look like they are from the MOFO server

It has been said by Zeus that he would put custom maps on if someone could find any maps that "THEY" have fully tested

Here is a quote from him

FULLY looking into whether or not the custom content issues / megatextures etc were ever resolved or worked around.

All I ask is, please dont post or bring me "I think, I heard, maybe etc etc" have a full working detailed plan on what needs to be done and have tested it locally and completely as well. If someone looks into it and finds all this info and can provide the simple setup, I would be willing to then make a group to test and search out custom maps for the server.

I haven't played any of the custom maps yet, but have done some research on them. I think most of this boils down to the authors use of megatextures, whether they used custom ones or not. I'm hoping to have some free evening time coming up and am going to try to find three solid maps (hopefully without the use of custom textures), put into a map cycle and test them out. I'll post back my findings...anyone else willing to give this a ride?

Server's up with six custom maps in rotation, however I did the work on my old laptop which has proven to be a awful choice for a server and even worse host as a http host. I'll shoot let you know sissy once I get a another box built to test on.

New box is up and running, but have had problems with the map download. QW has a built in web server, but it is a total POS. I'm going to push the massive files up to a remote web server after the holidays and try the redirect for map downloads. Will keep you all posted.

So I finally gave up on Sunday, just too much time wasted trying to find admin resources. I would have a few hours here or there to play with it, however most references point to the community forums that activision blew up. So I would use Q4 server admin sites and trial and error server config writing; after a few hours on Sunday decided I was done. Sorry Sissy, I know you where looking forward to some fresh levels.
