Yep, all the stock maps packaged with ET have had their source released for mappers to use and modify.

I heard about this, looked on their site on it, and still don't understand exactly what it is. It sounds like a way to edit the current maps, but since default 6 can be found in some of the default .pk3's, like pak0, pak1, pak2, and mp_bin, I assume that's how there were spin-off maps like Super Goldrush, Summer Radar, etc...prior to this announcement.

Can anyone say what this means and how it's significant?

Thanks.

Originally Splash Damage only released the .map file of Goldrush. They figured that people could load this map into radiant and pretty much get a good idea of how they made the maps. If you had wanted to see how they did brushwork or layout for the other 5 stock maps, you would have to reverse compile the .bsp file from the .pk3 which created some interesting results as textures and some location of brushwork was not accurate.

The good thing about this release is that these are the .map files that splash damage created and used to compile. A person can learn a lot from looking around these maps in radiant and seeing how the professionals created these fun maps we have been playing for years!

As Luke said, without these, your only option was to reverse compile which.........made some interesting and pretty ugly results. :eew:
