Medal of Honor (PC) - 12 October 2010
This article http://pc.ign.com/articles/110/1102186p1.html (Read paragraphs 4 and 5 especially) shows that the upcoming revamp to the Medal of Honor series (respectively called Medal of Honor) shows that the game mode is strikingly similar to Wolf:ET, with a map of sequential objectives that offense (Americans) try to accomplish, while defense (terrorists) try to defend against the allied push, and spawns advance with objective completions.

Looks like a game will standardly be maxed on all platforms including PC at 24 players (this seems to be a new trend having less players).

Expect Ironsights whether you're a fan of it or not, Medel of Honor series had Ironsights before original Call of Duty was made.
Features:
24 player.
Ironsights (likely).
Objective gameplay.
Dedicated Servers (likely).
Class Selection.
Class customization (create a class I think).
"Scorechains" (Killstreaks that reward the player with killstreak abilities)
Modern graphics and sound.

Call of Duty: Black Ops (PC) - 9 November 2010
The latest annual entry of Call of Duty. Not WW2, not modern either...Cold War conflicts, interesting.

http://pc.ign.com/objects/143/14349496.html

Dedicated servers are back. I was a supporter of IWNet on MW2 at first, though I felt the best would be a choice for either IWNet or Dedicated Server. After trying about 3 months of MW2's IWNet, I conclude it's a premature system that needs improvement and is far from acceptable in it's current state, that's where Dedicated Servers comes on-top, not to mention the customizability of a dedicated server along with modding. IWNet had way to many instances of severe lag spikes like a slow-moving flipbook, wait periods for a new host to be found, slow waits in pre-match lobbies, disconnections from lobbies, and games ending from a new host not being found.

Features and changes from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (PC):
(change) Dedicated Servers.
(change) No more game-ending killstreak rewards, like the Tacticle Nuke in MW2.
(change) Kills to obtain a Killstreak reward carry-over after death (that I don't like).
(new) Full-facial mocap (motion capture).
(change) Full-blown co-op story mode like Call of Duty: World at War but not MW2.
(new) "Create-a-class 2.0" with character-appearance customization.
(change) Blood and Gore that was seen in WaW but not MW2.
(new) Weapon: Crossbow with explosive arrowtip.
(new) Ammo: Dragon's Breath shotgun round.
(change) Lean ability, which was absent in MW2.
(new) Considered a sequel to WaW and has a returning story mode character.
(new) Vehicles: an SR-71 Blackbird and a Hind helicopter.
64+ player servers (likely).

Call of Duty: Black Ops (appears to be 360 version, PC was hard to find, but this should be similar)

Hmmm, medal of honor seems very much like Quake Wars in gameplay.

Anywho, while both seem interesting, they lack the core attraction of ET that keeps many of us there. That would be the fast paced 'run-and-gun' feel married to the solid objective gameplay.

ET so far is the only game to effectively combine those two elements. So many objective games play slower, with cover being heavily emphasized and just plain slower/sluggish player movement (more realistic if you will).

I am putting my current hopes on Brink to be ET's spiritual successor... only time will tell

Funny that it will have a SMART button, like that TV ad for an office supply store. :lmao:

Yeah yeah yeah, I know... a bit gimmicky

They are just trying to avoid having a bunch of duck + slide + grab + lift + long jump buttons. I can only hope it works out well, and doesn't get all consoley on us ;)

I have finaly began coming round to the idea that ET is gonna eventually fade away and I shed a tear as I say this. The Q3 engine is responsible for more than one generation of FPS lovers and to see it so unceremoniously discarded by the advancements in technology is in my opinion, a loss to many future generations of players. I will be playing ET until it dies though.

However, this understanding brings your question into light. I'm gonna wanna play something else BBA related after this. Watching the mayhem of Left 4 Dead, that looked good, but the lack of MASS (I.e 30 v 30) playability leaves me reluctant.

Cannon said it as best as it could be said really:

If I were forced to choose one of the two, I'd say Call Of Duty, mainly because I expect it to be more popular and hence, hold out longer in the test of time, but then again, I found out about ET from word of mouth and I've never looked back since... I'm really troubled by this issue, but yeah, I recognise the need for diversifying.

God bless ID software and the generation of gamers, modders and programmers it inspired. I wave a respectful, yet saddened farewell...

Don't forget to thank Splash Damage. They are the lowly Q3 modders who dared to dream big and created what we now know and love as ET.

BTW, they partnered with Bethesda Softworks (of Fallout fame) to create Brink. If anyone can make a ET successor, perhaps they can. Then again, they did drop a mighty stink bomb with Quake Wars...

Only time will tell, methinks.

I was in the original closed super secret beta test of QW about a year before it came out and in its original form it was an even better game, they dumbed down some stuff and removed some other totally, still if you take the time to learn the ins and outs of it, its not a bad game, now if you want to talk stinkers, what about the new RTCW? :shit:

Oh man, been so long now, I believe I used just Zeus or -Zeus-, I was in, Jaybird ( Jaymod ) and I also got -999- in, this was not the public beta they had but the closed "non existant" one, lol. Had the secret forums and crap plus we played only one map at a time.
It was MUCH more team oriented and tougher then the version they released. I dont remember all the changes but some weapons and objectives were tweaked considerably, the very first release day was nothing more then a slideshow on my X800XT back then. :hail:

Ahhh, I was in the first round of public beta - the one with the 'unannounced' lottery to get a key. By then it must've been smacked into non-awesomeness :(

For the simplistic run-&-gun shooters, your best bet (other than Brink) would probably be a new Quake game (or Quake Live which is released and web-browser based) or a new Unreal game, those Unreal games area super fast paced and good for a run-&-gun gameplay.

I think you are kinda missing my point. What makes ET a must-play to me is that is so effectively combines arena-style melee/fighting and team-based objective/strategy play.

Medal of Honor has the objective/strategy play according to IGN, but it'll probably also control more like Call of Duty than Wolfenstein, to me that's not bad but some others don't want that.
